Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
